What was the best year of the 21st century so far in your opinion?

I don't mean the best year in your personal life - I mean the best year for society as a whole, from your point of view

I'm going with 2012. Obama was still President and reelected to a second term and we were hopeful that he'd get things done (sadly, the Republicans managed to stop too many of the things he wanted to do, but in 2012 we didn't know this). The world didn't end as many people feared, so there was a sense of hopefulness that was soon lost, but was nice while it was here.

Several countries ended their LGBTQ discrimination in different ways (Denmark made same sex marriage legal for example).

A bunch of different space things happened that were cool. Some good music and movies came out. Some cool Tech stuff happened.

And mostly, it was just really the last good year before things started going downhill.
