Yooooo, Taboo was awesome. Some of Hardy's best work.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. I will be very sad if there isn't a second season, but I'm trying to accept that it's likely.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I found it tiresome and plotless.

Hardy would not make a good Bond, in my opinion. Honestly I think he does better in non-action movie roles where he can really show his range. He ends up kind of boring and flat, in my opinion, in action movies.

+1, Hardy is great in weird movies/TV where he looks like the normal guy then super isn't. In straight-up roles he's just not very interesting and would be wasted on Bond.

I'm here some Grantchester Bond villain! Norton would be deliciously good at it, i like to believe.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Honestly, after only seeing Grantchester, I would have been skeptical, but after a bit of Happy Valley and McMafia, I can definitely see him as Bond.

SA

Sorry, just re-read and realized you were proposing him as a Bond villain. I'm totally on board for that as well. I think he could do an interesting job with James Bond himself, but yeah, plenty of possibility for a villain as well!

AYRT

I'm realizing I misread the secret (and the thread lol) but I think he'd be good in either role as well!

Hardy would be phenomenal as an English literary spy, just not James Bond. He would make an amazing Tommy Hambledon (at least in the post-WW2 books). Seriously, he's perfect for the part. He's just very imperturbable and quizzical and odd in a totally low-key way and just gives you the sense of constantly taking this bemused pleasure at every weird thing that happens. I know no one else but me has read the Hambledon books but I have to mention it because Hardy is Hambledon to me now.

But that's not Bond. Bond is a bully and a sadist with a cold veneer of charm laid over the top. That's not Hardy.

I personally think hardy does better in villain/kind of crazy roles. I've read somewhere that he generally does more of them than because he enjoys it a lot more and you can see it in his acting.

Agreed. Hardy is a much more interesting actor than Bond.

Wait is taboo the show where hardy played a mixed black character? or am i thinking of something else?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the character's mother is native Alaskan?

If I remember correctly, yes, his father married a Native American and had Hardy's character with her. She apparently died when he was young, but not so young he didn't remember her or her People's culture. I think after her death, he was sent away?

Then when he returns from Africa, where he was presumed dead, he finds out his father apparently remarried and fathered a daughter, whom he becomes [somewhat] obsessed with, despite her being his half sister.

It's a dark, twisty show.

Personally, I think there's been enough Bond movies, it's time to retire the franchise.

And yes, dammit, I want Taboo season 2.
