What are you up to, FS?

I'm getting back into Flight Rising and trying to sell some of my dragons so I have some freaking space in my lair.

Yay, FR! I love that site. It is one of my big obsessions. What's your username? I'm dragonofmordor on there. I always have no space even though I've bought all the possible space because I always buy more pretty dragons.

Today I was doing legal work most of the day, with a small break at lunch time for a pharmacy and Starbucks run. Also washed sheets and then showered and washed hair after dinner.

Now I"m only just finally settling in front of my computer to take meds, watch some Saving Hope, and then sleep. I'm honestly not really tired yet.

I'm Rumpelstiltskin. I'm just... for every space I make, I see something else. I'm trying to bid on a Gen2 imp right now but I feel like the seller missed my post because they never updated the listing or replied. But I don't want to be pushy and be like 'EXCUSE ME' (I just really want this Imp omg a Gen2 that I can afford and like the colours of??).

Busy season at work has started in earnest and I am in a murtherous emotional state. Absolutely scabrous. My emotional state is just a series of knife emojis.

I went to the post office today and there was no line but they made me wait anyway. They do that all the time. Then the post office lady started lecturing me for not putting my return address on my outgoing mail.

I'm going to have to look up flight rising (only heard of it here!).

I'm trying to find the perfect long fic to satisfy me -- something with the right balance of length, smut, and plot for my current pairing. The two I'm stuck on now are currently WIPs, so i did this to myself, but everything else are smutty one shots. Which, great, but I need more than just that.Sigh.

I'm looking forward to five days off in a row after tomorrow, but I'm wondering if I should ruin a day by going to the doctor for chest pain stuff (it's not COVID, tested negative a couple times and it started before COVID was a thing in the US.)

I had a phone appointment already and they said they couldn't do anything if I didn't come in. I'm getting my second COVID shot Saturday and wanted to wait until two weeks after that, plus I hate doctor visits.

Sometimes I'm tempted to get liposuction (is that even still a thing?) so I can interrupt the obligatory weight lecture and actually find out what's wrong. "You're fat and eat too much, come back when you've lost weight" is not a diagnosis. I got variations on the same answer for an infected bee sting, vaginal infections, infrequent periods, too-frequent periods, random bouts of weird nausea and exhaustion where I couldn't eat for days... ffs pretend I'm thin.

The sad thing is the chest pain probably is my fault and I do eat too much. But I don't drink alcohol, smoke anything, do any drugs, eat meat, drink soda or much else but sparkling water, and only drink coffee if I'm pulling an all-nighter, which I haven't done in years. So far this year I've walked at least seven miles a day, every day, on top of having a full time job.

But thanks to a weird upbringing I have so many issues about food and controlling what and how much I eat that I could spend decades in therapy just for food stuff. And if I don't try anyway I may not have decades.

Last night watched my friend continue streaming a blind run of Day of the Tentacle on Twitch, tried not to get frustrated because I have half the game memorized and she was fixated on solving some puzzles she literally could not solve yet, hahah.

This morning woke up with a headache that is probably either fatigue or caffeine withdrawal, can't have coffee because I need to go pick up groceries in an hour and swallowing anything less than 8 hours before I need to sit up long enough to drive a couple miles is a recipe for miserable nausea and reflux. I will live with the freaking headache.

Favorite Book You Were Forced to Read in School

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
I know a lot of people didn't like being forced to read "classic" literature, but did anyone enjoy what they were assigned to read? I actually really loved A House on Mango Street. That was assigned in ninth grade and I still remember loving it.

Gentlehands by M.E. Kerr really stuck with me. Everyone is going to say The Giver. I really liked Crime and Punishment.

When we were learning about biographies/autobiographies at school we were given 'Chinese Cinderella' by Adeline Yen Mah. It was the first nonfiction book that I had gotten really engrossed in (and actually finished reading it well before I was suppose to since reading it chapter by chapter was part of the homework for the term).

I had to quit school because of my health before we got into reading entire chaptered books for classes, I think that's a high school thing? But before I had to quit, my elementary/middle school AT classes had us reading "Junior Great Books", which were compilations of short stories. Many of them were good, but Harrison Bergeron is the one that I still think about a lot 30 years later.

A Tale of Two Cities. We'd had to read Great Expectations earlier in the year, which I absolutely haaaaaated, and was primed to despise anything Dickens our teacher came up with after that. But then we got to AToTC and I cried like a baby at the end of the book and it became probably my second favorite assigned book out of all of school. Haven't reread it in decades at this point, but I'd like to give it another shot and see how it compares to my memory.

Had to read Black Ice by Lorene Cary. I haven’t reread it and don’t remember a lot of it but every so often some passage just kind of rolls into my mind. So maybe it’s less liked but it affected me in a way more than anything else we had to read that comes to mind at the moment.

Maybe 100 Years of Solitude, although I've never re-read it.
