when i first read this book in like.....8th grade i absolutely HATED holden caulfield. i thought he was so obnoxious and wanted him to shut up. i reread it during the first lockdown wave and like.....yeah, he's annoying and obnoxious and painfully sixteen. but he's also very young, and painfully transparently sad, and going through a lot of trauma. i may not like him very much, but i definitely have a lot more empathy for him now.
