The book sucks

I had to read it in high school. I know a lot of people who empathized with Holden.

For me, there was only one good part in the book, and I really wish the whole novel had been just that moment over and over.

Of course I'm talking about the half-page or so where the pimp beats him up.

A happy ending for that book would've seen the whiny little shit stepping in front of a speeding bus and catching that bumper.

Wait, I thought MPDG was more a male fantasy of how a dream woman should be and that was the issue? Maybe I misunderstood it all these years but I don’t see a problem with any of what you said for yourself. I thought the criticism of the trope was usually down to the character not feeling genuinely themselves, and more existing to serve a man’s (usually romantic) plot?

i never liked angel in buffy. idk if i found his spinoff interesting, don't remember anymore.
when i rewatched buffy and i definitely noticed that it seemed like they were referencing a bunch of shit from his show during his cameo, but even that didn't really give me any urge to try it out.

I agree on all counts. Also original WHF is way better than the new version.

Really it seems like it's a setting that has a lot of cool stuff but neither the fandom nor the creators are really interested in the same parts of it I am. And that's fine, just one of those things
