I have that CD! And as much as I love Hirata-san in everything he voices (One Piece, T&B, and Saiyuki for real yo) he can't sing and it's....honestly okay. He's doing his best.

I think it's fine that Japan still does this for its largest properties (yes there were still One Piece image songs as of 3-4 years ago for a major tourism/anniversary promo) because even if they can't sing, it's a level of engagement with the fandom and source material that the US just hasn't understood. It can be hilariously awkward sometimes but the tradeoff is finding out which seiyuu CAN sing, and well, and hoping that they get work in other properties because it means a good chance at more image songs. I have a playlist from Dynasty Warriors and there are so many seiyuu who can sing and I want to hear more from, compared to the hilarity that was "who in Slayers/Sailor Moon can not sing to save their lives" in the 90s.

Hahah, but should Kotetsu be able to sing? I am thinking no. ;) There was that album art with him holding a guitar though, I wound up headcanoning that he still had one sitting around somewhere that he used to play and sing to Tomoe. Not very well, but it was sweet, so she endured it. <3

...I can't remember any Sailor Moon seiyuu that I thought couldn't sing, but maybe I've just blocked out everything but Kaze ni Naritai. (I liked that one enough I taught myself how to play it on guitar, though I am approximately at the level of musical talent I'm assigning Kotetsu above...)
