The kids' (would be YA now igss but that didn't exist then) book "The Drowning of Stephen Jones" made me realize I wasn't straight.

Tori Amos made me realize I wasn't broken from my sexual abuse.

Star Wars gave me great friends when I desperately needed them (as would Stargate later down the line).
