I'm okay with sexed up, there's admittedly a lot of sex necessary to events, and i'd rather it be less dry. but I actually want the intrigue to be mainly political rather than mainly emotional, and I'm not getting that lol.

Yes, exactly! And I'd like it to be more based on history, less so on an individual author's imagination and weird hang-ups.
