OP here

In the past month I've had one show cancellation because of the production company sucking, several celebrities I have loved and admired for years getting hit with scandals that, if true, will either permanently taint my image of them or outright destroy their career, people having to remove themselves from the public eye because of scandals, etc etc etc. Considering the real world isn't exactly peachy right now, losing my ability to escape in fandoms, most of which I've been in for over a decade at this point, is genuinely a persistent jack hammer to my mental health. It doesn't help that most of these are my comfort fandoms, or so deeply ingrained in my personal history that they're tied to a significant portion of other fandoms, so it's just a constant minefield.

I'd love to take a step back from fandom for a bit because I know it's not good for me right now, but. Not a lot else to occupy me.

Can I suggest you dump all social media, stick just to AO3, and take up writing/drawing/another creative outlet for your fandom? I did this as I felt exactly the same as you and it has 100% helped my mental health.

I'm sort of trying that? I started writing fic again last year and it's helping sometimes, and I'm a few days in to completely dropping some of the most stressful social media sites and limiting tumblr to mostly looking at pretty gifsets instead of anything discoursey.

I'm glad it's working for you, and I hope it starts to work for me too.

I hope it does too nonny. Good luck!
