TW: animal death and general grossness

(Anonymous) 2021-04-07 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
We'd had a few mice get in the house during the last week(about 2-3 due to the cold), nothing bad but we'd been setting traps to catch them so we could release them elsewhere... well today I found out what cooked-mouse smells like because one of the poor buggers climbed INTO the toaster before I put it on. So now I need a new toaster.

Why it didn't climb out when I went near it I don't know, but I don't rate this as a life-experience and will now be checking every toaster I use out of sheer paranoia.

Oh no, that's awful. Poor mouse. :( Poor you!

ARYT.

We managed to get two of them out safely at least, but the third had been lurking around still and I can't say this is how I wanted to find it. I just feel awful about not checking the toaster first, and also gross because the smell has lingered all day in the kitchen. :(

AYRT I can't say it would have even occurred to me to look in a toaster in your situation, don't beat yourself up about it nonny. Ugh, that sounds gross. I hope the smell clears soon!

AYRT.

We've scheduled a duo effort deep-clean of the kitchen tomorrow if nothing else to make us feel less icky about it. But thank you anon. :)

Augh, poor mouse, but also ew! I'm sorry for you and your icky discovery. I managed to live trap and relocate mice living in my stove without incident, but then the rats moved in and destroyed my stove, and none of them ever got cooked, so idk.

Maaaan... when I was still a kid living with my parents, my room was next to the room with the furnace, and once a squirrel somehow got in through the chimney and I could hear it scrabbling around in there, trying to climb out, unlike the occasional bird who could FLY out. While my parents were trying to figure out how they could open it up to free it without letting it loose into the house, the furnace started up and there was even more frantic scrabbling... then the house started to smell like meat. :(

So I relate a bit too hard to this story. :/

Oh, that's horrifying. For multiple reasons.
