Those are his kids! Twins Jonathan and Jordan. Jonathan is presented as the popular football player and Jordan is presented as the sullen loner. Atleast that's the dynamics they had in Metropolis. Everything starts getting flipped when they move to Smallville after the death of Clark's mom. While there Jordan starts presenting with Kryptonian powers (though weaker then Clark's) which leads to new bonding between him and Clark as well as him finding some self-confidence as he tries out for the football team and makes himself a star while also pursuing a relationship with Sarah Cushing (Lana Lang's daughter). At the same time Jonathan is not doing so well but trying to be supportive of his twin.

I do like that Jordan is said to be mentally ill and they never once try to wipe it away that the issues stem from being a hybrid human-alien. They also address mental illness in other teens on the show which is nice.

The twins are extremely supportive of each other which I like though at times it feels more like Jonathan is giving to help Jordan and Jordan doesn't reciprocate much in return. Atleast right now where it feels like Jordan is hitting his stride and letting it go to his head while Jonathan is the one struggling with not knowing himself or his place in town.

Lois is definitely told and shown to be a BAMF which I adore. Clark is such a good and dorky person that love his wife and family; yet feels such a duty to the world. I like that they talk like real adults to each other and struggle over old issues and new ones. I honestly want more of them on the screen then anything else XD Like I wish the show either did the kids younger or about to go to college because I just want the parents and not teen melodrama.

And while its interesting that showing Smallville, as a small town, is struggling and trying to thrive in today's hardships its also very complicated thing to show and so makes plot slow to me. There isn't ever gonna be a satisfying resolution because the town is dying and so it needs jobs. Even jobs offered by shady businessmen. The only difference between real life Amerciana is that this shady businessman wants to make super-soldier types.

And then we got Captain Luthor who is a survivor of one of the lost earth's whose decided that since Kal-El was evil in his world he has to be evil in this one. He's just gotta provoke him enough to prove it to this world. And, recently, he found out his wife's counterpart is married to someone else (shocker being its Lois and she's married to Kal-El so now he's pissed and needs to 'save her').
