I should have been clearer. It's the flirting with adultery in the AD and therefore the spectre of divorce that confuses me. Not the not-so-subtle Christian parts.

As far as I can tell, Elizabeth, the teacher and lead, is not married to either of them. She got married to a Mountie posted there, Jack, in Season 5 (after taking a dislike to each other when they met and likely some unnecessary back-and-forth) and then he died at the end of Season 5. She had Jack's baby and then a newcomer, Lucas (guy on the right), showed up and then a new Mountie, Nathan (guy on the left), was posted to the town. And apparently, they are both her suitors now. She is a widowed mother, but is not currently married.
