What obscure line do you love to quote?

(Anonymous) 2021-04-08 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not talking the big lines everyone loves, but a weird throwaway line that wasn't that memorable but you love to say anyways.

When I was a kid I would say "See you in three weeks" to say goodbye. I was quoting Cruella but one remembered that line ever.

And now, in Firefly, Jayne has a line in the Hero of Danton episode "The living legend needs eggs" and I say it literally every time I need or cook eggs.

"How are you fairing?" by Balmung from .hack//IMOQ. Just always loved how he said it and I'll sometimes ask people it in the same tone.

"My body is not... cooperating" gets a LOT of use.

"If you have to pee you should do it now, 'cause there's not many places to stop once we get on the road." - Twister. Universally applicable.

Does it count if it’s obscure to my coworkers? ‘Cause I sometimes tell them to believe in the heart of the cards when they’re having a tough day. I also say things are “perfectly cromulent”.

"There are a lot of people in Versailles today." Marie Antoinette says it to Du Barry in the Sofia Coppola film

I say "Mars is amaaaazing" when something is completely fucking nuts. It's from that dark af Robot Chicked Calvin & Hobbes spoof in which Calvin has a schizophrenic break and believes he and Hobbes have gone to Mars.

Pretty much every quote from 'Auntie Mame'. Apparently nobody watches that movie any more.

'Are we all lit?'
'What could be more wholesome or natural!'
'Books are awfully decorative, don't you think?'

OMG

TOP DRAWER, REALLY YOU'RE TOO DRAWER!

I am always quoting her "Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving" they are one of the few quotes I'm always trying to live by or keep in mind. Certainly use it often!

It's one of my favorite movies, so I'm glad to see it mentioned!

Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!

"I lived! I gotta find out what to do now!"

I love it love it love, and yes - that is one of the best lines.
Of course, you always have to quote Gloria with her Long-Island Lock-jaw.

"Patrick, you never told me your aunt was literate!"

I dunno how much was brought over - the musical movie (with Lucille Ball) seemed very different to me.

It's so *fun*, though - I just adore it. :D

I wish I had the guts to use "what's the rumpus?" from Miller's Crossing. But I'm just a bit too awkward and it's a bit too weird sounding in modern English for me to get away with using it casually.

I always start the line and wait for someone to finish the Jack Sparrow line at the end of PotC 1:

"... Spiritually, Emotionally, Intellectually,..." And then he says "Ecumenically" but no one ever follows up :(

“By the way, I can’t stand you and I won’t ever forget what you did to me” (usually said whenever one of my roommates eats my yogurt or something like that).

In my social circle, that's one of the big lines everyone loves.

It's possible we are too cynical.
