OP, what's the anime? C'mon OP, give us a title. What's the anime that you watched as a kid where the protagonist rapes someone and it's not given another thought?

Not OP but - every BL ever?

AYRT: When I was a kid and I hunted down BL, I had the good fucking sense to realise that porn=/=reality, and that I was gonna see some fucked-up shit. Maybe that was just me?

... Though not all BL is porn (see: Gravitation or whatever) and that's beyond the question?

If they're talking current anime that's pretty much the plot of Redo of Healer, which is very much not for kids (or almost anyone else really unless you have a rape fetish...).

AYRT: Never heard of it. I googled it and it rings no bells, has poor ratings, and the one paragraph summary immediately translated in my mind to 'Dickhead EdgyBoi uses Uber-L33t Skillz to Pwn all who oppose him & Get All The Girls'.
I can totally understand hating the existence of something like that, honestly, but it's... it's pretty non-standard? Even among sexist male power fantasy light novels, it is (as far as I know, please god don't tell me if I'm wrong) a bit of an outlier?

From what I've seen, even a good number of people who like OTT grimdark/edgy stuff think it's dumb and a bit much. But I can see why something like this would get niche popularity in a country like Japan, where bullying is still such a massive problem that reading something that's basically a character going on an OTT rage filled revenge spree on their former tormentors can be pretty cathartic while exploring these feelings in a safe (fictional) setting.

It’s basically ‘cartoonishly evil villains rape and torture hero, hero gets revenge by raping and torturing them.’ I checked out the manga out of morbid curiosity and dropped it pretty quick, the worldbuilding and characters are paper thin so it mostly just exists to be edgy hentai.

Royal Space Force. Not a kiddie anime, but doesn't excuse how careless an addition the rape was. Additionally as other people have said, various yaois. The Oprah meme can be applied. "And you get a rape, and you get a rape, and you get a rape, and you get a--!"

AYRT: Okay, I had never heard of this film, so I did some searching around and some reading, and - I might be reading some excessively generous interpretations, but there seems to be some agreement that the attempted rape is supposed to be seen as the protagonist's lowest moment & absolute peak of dickery, and his subsequent realisation of his shitty personality and behaviour fuels his turnabout into a less terrible person?
I don't think that really gives it a pass, but I can at least see the intention there, and it's not 100% terrible.

If that's what is intended, but other shows like Evangelion did it better. Here, it's just for the man painz.

It's made by the people who did Eva, just... them minus eight years of experience. So things are, if you're feeling charitable, 'messier'.
