Japan has an ongoing history of fascism.
China keeps committing human rights abuses.
South Korea is a debt-ridden mess.

All the major east Asian countries that people stan are flawed places with really fucked up histories. All countries are flawed places! B U T
a) being a fan of anime, or xianxia, or k-pop, does not automatically make someone a tool or mindless defender of a given nation and their given politics/history
b) (or maybe a.2) being a fan of media from one country doesn't mean the fan hates another country, even if those countries hate each other very much
c) being critical of specific fucked up shit a country has done / is doing doesn't make a person racist

Can we all just take a few deep breaths and try not to take it all so personally? I just really want to talk to someone about how ultra-hyper-mega-sexist the Joseon dynasty was without people getting mad, come on.

1- Yes.
2- True.
3- Debatable, but whatever.

a) As it shouldn't
b) Obviously, and even people in those countries don't always hate each other
c) It doesn't, but if all you do is point out their mistakes and ultimately avoid your own country's you're not doing any good in fighting racism either. Besides, it's debatable how much knowledge a foreigner who isn't a historian, sociologist or whatever can have on another country, particularly if they don't speak their language fluently enough to actually read their books. Like, sure you know a bit and you can have a bar talk about it but, uh, assuming that you KNOW shit ... idk :/
