Never read the books, but I tried to watch the show because the movie was fun and goddamn is Godfrey Gao hot as fuck. Only problem to me was... NO ONE in that TV show could act. It was just... horrifying to be honest.

Yeah, I gave up partway through the first series. I will admit to watching videos of Harry Shum Jr as Magnus Bane. Man damn near carried the whole show on his back.

I think for me because everyone was kind of flat it ended up cancelling-out in a weird way? Like I think if you put any of those actors up beside... well good actors, their flaws will stand out much more obviously and you can tell how bad they are, but shove them in a room with other iffy actors and it becomes like bad-acting white noise?

Lmao, that's the best way I can think to describe how I watch shows like these and still enjoy them, but then I'm also not there for Noteworthy Performances.

I feel this way about a lot of CW shows, too - the 20-something cast are all pretty but mostly terrible actors, so it doesn't really show...but then when a good actor (like Victor Garber or Alexander Siddig) shows up, usually as a villain, it's very obvious!

yeah no one on that show was what i'd call good, but it was just another show in a long line of shows that tumblr was into that was pretty iffy quality wise. i think ppl just like enjoyable trash, and i am one of those ppl.

After the movie didn't do well, I was surprised they went ahead with the show with a way lesser known cast.
