You... you have a point there, OP.

I dunno, there is content in that book that makes me so intensely uncomfortable. But damn, those uncomfortable bits carry so much narrative weight? The redemption arc hits harder, the Final Villain's actions are more complicated, it's just... it is what it is.

(Also also, if it came out now it would probs be competing with Word of Honor fans.)

Yeah I've seen it mentioned that Word of Honour being more successful than anticipated might be one of the several factors it won't air yet. Main one is rumoured to be yet another round of censorship and people estimate that by now, it'll likely come out last third of this year or even the next year (because it's the 100 year anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese communist party this summer and it's considered unlikely that any drama that's even remotely problematic and not in line with the party's values will air around that time.)

But what you said is also one of the main reasons I'm not just anxious about the fans it'll bring along but about the drama itself. There's so much that needs to be cut that I'm not 100% convinced the drama will have the same emotional impact on me as the novel had.
