(Anonymous) 2021-04-14 03:06 am (UTC)(link)I thought so, too, but recently I've been re/reading shoujo manga and I realized I still like the aesthetic, (I'm particularly crazy about modern, as in post-2015 shoujo, it's all so cute!) and those with good stories still hold up. My main issue is, well, they seldom have good stories now IMO. For josei, I just use that as an umbrella term because there's shoujo that could very well be josei (like NANA), josei that could very well be shoujo (like Hatenkou Yuugi or Spicy Pink) or even shounen (say, Usagi Drop?). Having said that, some of my personal favorites (and I had to double-check to make sure, I'll give you that!) are Chihayafuru, Kuragehime, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and Honey & Clover.
