I never understood the stereotype of gay men supposedly being hostile to women (unless they worked in the fashion industry).

I've met plenty of misogynistic gay men. They aren't magically exempt from the shitty social constructs contributing to misogyny just because they sleep with men.

But neither are they more misogynistic surely?

my point exactly

Different anon

Standard misogyny - any "use" for us women types = real obvious misogyny.

I've seen incredibly bad examples of mysogynistic people among gay and straight (and maybe bisexual? asexual? whatever?) dudes, but it's not like I haven't seen any mysogynistic woman ever either, so. Meh.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-15 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not more misogynistic, but it comes out in different ways.

Seconding this. I've also never hear anyone suggest gay men are more misogynistic than straight men—just that they can be misogynistic too.

It's a big world, I'm sure there are people out there arguing gay men are more misogynistic than straight men. But it's definitely not what most people are saying.

this. what original commenter might be picking up on is people complaining about gay men thinking they are exempt from misogyny because they're not attracted to women?

(Anonymous) 2021-04-15 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Arguably it's picking up on a flavor of "women are gross, am i rite" humor that's been a staple of gay (especially drag) comedy for years. Of course the other stereotype is "sassy gay best friend."
