Right?! I won't deny that i thought Paul Mccartney was the cutest one growing up, but George always kinda caught my eye. It wasn't until I got a bit older that it really hit me George was the best looking one. And on top of that -- no one ever talks about him!!! At least not in any conversations I've had re: the Beatles. It was always Paul, John, or Ringo. And so for a while i thought I was making George up too! Lol

Ah, thanks! Great explanation! I can see your points and they're valid, IMO.

I also love Shakespeare's plays and just can't get into his poetry. As you say, too sappy.

Any love out there for John Cooper Clarke? I'm not sure I love his stuff, but I find it fascinating.

I've got to go back to reading and listening to Andrea Gibson. They made such a difference to me in college.

Perhaps it's also time to get into some new queer spoken word poets.

Lol i feel like I'm a bit younger than a fandom Olde (proper olde, like zines and the 90s) but I got into fandom and had such a great experience on a little ship specific forum that also had affiliate links to other ships in the fandom -- it didn't have to be a fight! At least not in our corner. And you could appreciate other characters and ships too! It was low key and fun. I do miss it, but I'm glad I was able to have it. I'm just a bit reluctant to participate actively in fandom these days because it seems to require more involvement (and drama) than I care to indulge in.

Lmao are you feeling me? I want a massage and to sleep in the comfiest bedding I can imagine. And wake up at 10 AM tomorrow. Lol

Yep. Asian culture is cool, but apparently not Asians themselves.

I'm with you on the sentient and can communicate bits. Don't care if it's humanoid or not; too close to human seems like a cop out. I prefer the idea of average to extra big but still within human operating standards size dragons, but could be convinced of, idk, jumbo jet sized dragon/regular human if the author or artist got creative.

After seeing the fmetsy "sexy dragon" link someone posted ITT , I'm down for that level to full on humanoid with some dragon attributes. Again, my biggest concerns are sentience/communication & scale. Like, yeah the sex is cool and all, but I'm here for a full in relationship!

Now I want to read a story where a dragon and woman fall in love after being enemies or merely brought together by circumstances but they grow and learn from each other. Lol

Re: What kind of people do you trust and/or alternatively not trust?

(Anonymous) 2021-04-16 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
This. I mean, I have a tendency of wanting to trust and share too much. But do people deserve it? Is it justified by reason? The answer is: no.

Something like 20 years ago I was in an RP where for some reason someone else in the RP suggested a character I was playing was into Yeats, whom I was unfamiliar with, since I'm not really a poetry fan. So I was like "okay..." and looked some stuff up...

...Yeah, I can get behind that myself, as well as the character in question being into it.

Read the book Song in the Silence by Elizabeth Keener! It's got a dragon-human friendship that eventually turns romantic.

Nothing new for me lately but I saw Kate Bush trending on Twitter the other morning and immediately wanted to put her on but refused because now that I'm heavily back into Vagrant Story, I'm pretty sure that also listening to Kate Bush would be a recipe for derailing the rest of my week.

But now it's my weekend so here's one that was on someone else's VS playlist waaay back in the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUP2FZmKGXw

Eliot is my favorite poet as well.

I used to be the sole member in Arthur Rimbaud fandom back when I was a teen. I think I liked his bright but problematic persona as I was very bright but problematic (and young, then) myself and that made me find refuge and comfort in his abstract, "vibes" poetry.

I also like local poets a lot but naming them would be outing myself too much.

... Also, can I say Pete Wentz cuz I've been having a blast lately. This is a joke but it's not a joke that I decided to closely inspect FOB lyrics in a "mall emo throwback" and found more things to appreciate (even if in a "wow teenage me felt that" way only) than to mock. There's so much intertextuality too, for real. I actually felt inspired to write my stuff. But anyway. To each their own lmao

I don't trust anyone who has "minor" in their twitter/tumblr bio. People who list their age and it's below 20 are also on thin ice, but simply saying you're a minor is a GUARANTEE you're that kind of entitled kid who invades explicitly adult spaces and sics your friends on the adults there for making you uncomfy because they're a MINOR and it's every adults job to make their content safe for MINORS!

Online? I kind of side-eye anyone who primarily refers to themselves as "fandom mom/dad/grandparent/etc." If other people refer to them as that, it's different. But if that's how they're introducing themselves as newbies, it's kind of sketch.

In real life, nosy old people who want to know everything about you because you live next door/shop at the same time as them/whatever. Most of them are probably just trying to be friendly, but it's still kind of creepy. Cool... you noticed I wasn't home for a few days. If I wanted you to know where I was going, I'd have told you before I left. Figure out how to use Netflix or something and leave me alone.

Hmm. Terminator 2 era Linda Hamilton. Not so much for the face or anything, I just want those shoulders.

Though honestly my mental image of myself is basically Arnold as the T-800, which is admittedly kind of weird and dysphoric since I'm tiny, frail, and female-bodied. :/

You might like "Waiting For The Beatles: An Apple Scruff's Story" by Carol Bedford. She was one of the intense Beatles fans who hung around Apple studios all day and night and some of them broke into Paul's house. But she was a George fan, and it's really interesting looking at that subculture and how different (and sometimes the same) it is from fandom today.
