i don't believe casting poc voice actors for poc roles is for "you". or to put it differently, meant to be about representation

it's about poc actors already having a limited number of roles they are considered for and opening poc roles for white people limits these opportunities further

that is how i understand the issue at least

Oh, I get that. I guess I was seeing it more from a place as the consumer, having companies like Disney shovel representation down our throats and telling us to be grateful. I am all for poc getting more work and voicing opportunities, I would only hope they wouldn't be limited to their ethnicity.

Considering that the vast majority of works - particularly older works that get redubbed, etc - still have an overrepresentation of non-POC people I suppose it'd be easier to just... you know, hire people regardless of "race" and try to be less racist. But I guess to many this is just an utopia by now. Fuck this world.

In theory, that sounds logical. In practice, when people say "let's just hire people based on ability!" they end up with all or mostly white people due to factors other than skill and talent. If there's one role available and 80% of the people being considered for that role are white, that tips the odds in favor of a white person getting cast. Especially if some of those white people are famous. Because unfortunately, Hollywood isn't really a "talent beats everything" kind of place. If they can get a big name white star for a role, that's what they want... not a talented POC.
