[Shadow and Bone]

(Anonymous) 2021-04-20 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
really? Because he's Real cute to me! lol

(Anonymous) 2021-04-20 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
YMMV and all but I definitely think he's handsome.

Honestly I'm more concerned with what his character is going to be like, I've not read the books so I'm going in blind, but I've seen some mild spoilers on here that make me a bit :| about things his character might do. But! I'll see how that turns out and I'm trying to keep the slate clean so I can absorb the story myself and make up my own mind.

They're supposedly fixing Mal so he's not shitty like he is in the books. Thirst away. :)

(Anonymous) 2021-04-20 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT.

Oh yay! That's good to hear, hopefully I can thirst away without being annoyed with him. ^_^

I don't know anything about this show beyond the trailers, but I am more interested in this hottie here:

Hey! That's that guy who was a dickhead in Westworld!

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, anon.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
His name's Ben Barnes, he was also in the second Narnia movie (as Prince Caspian), and was a villain in the Punisher series.

Also... me too. OOF.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhh Caspian, that's where I have seen him before. But mmm, that beard suits him.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
BEN BARNES!!!

MMMMM what a snack!

(Anonymous) 2021-04-20 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about the source material, but yeah, I agree that he's not a great choice for a character who is supposed to be head-turningly gorgeous. He's a good looking guy, IMO, but he's not gorgeous.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-20 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
this might be me, but i always feel that this is a common issue with the male-leads in YA stuff? they're supposed to be drop-dead gorgeous but all the guys that play them are... well ugly isn't the right word, but just average hollywood handsome? nothing stand-out? i genuinely can't think of a single YA male-lead i actually thought was as attractive as their book-self is meant to be.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hollywood prefers to only allow people to be good looking in exactly 1 way

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don't read much YA, but it seems to me like the novel leans more towards pretty boys and Hollywood has a hard time believing that sexy doesn't always mean rugged and ripped, not necessarily beautiful,

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds about right.

The Onion review of Hunger Games agrees:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kyx1U9QjWVQ

“I mean, he’s not ugly, he could have just been way cuter.”

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
The only time an actor was just as hot - if not hotter - as he was described in the book was the guy who played Lan Xichen in the Untamed imo.

Then again I read the danmei after watching the show so maybe that's why.

All the other cases were just at least a bit disappointing for me.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I was too distracted by his chin.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, fella can't hold a candle to Ben Barnes. :X

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I'm in the minority here, but he reminds (just a teensy bit) of Shrek. It's the ears, general shape of his head and unflattering haircut.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA OH NO

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Books shoudl really stop doing this kind of over the top descriptions of people's beauty - it's really hard to find actors that could inspire as much awe in everyone - some percentage of viewers will always claim that the actor/actress isn't striking/hot enough.

Also - I'm pretty sure most of those "Hollywood average" people would make a hell of an impression in real life among mere mortals, but as Hollywood doesn't really hire mere mortals, they don't stand out enough....

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Idk, the vast majority of books will never get adapted for any kind of IRL visual media so building up your characters around the highly unlikely assumption that there might not be the perfect actor to portray them seems pretty silly. One of the appeals of novels is the readers' freedom to interpret a character's looks the way they prefer.

I'm watching it now and he's freaking adorable, like a young Jason Momoa. Totally charming smile. And he's not ripped at all. Very lean and pretty.
