I've halted on watching it for the violence as well/from the ads his character gave me playboy vibes and I just wasn't in the mood for Playboy Pascal. I do hear he's a hoe all over season 4 of GoT, so there's that option too (although the violence...).

On the one hand, there's no reason you have to like classic Who. And if the effects and budget are your concern, that's pretty reasonable - classic Who is just never going to be your bag.

On the other hand, Hartnell and Baker are not totally wholly representative of classic Who in its entirety

As someone who loves some of Classic Who (Baker being one of them), there isn't a rule that says you have to enjoy or even watch all Who. That's not a thing.

Even though I love classic Who, it's understandable that they're not for everyone - especially since we're talking about really different eras of TV between the 1960s - 1980s (90s if you're including the movie).
I know that when I was getting into Dr Who after the first series of the reboot, I tried to watch it all in chronological order but hated the first Doctor so much that I just skipped to watching the 5th Doctor and onwards (Its only fairly recently I just started watching the 2nd and 3rd Doctors episodes, which I liked a lot more than I expected).

Either way, nothing wrong with having a preference.

If it's not for you it's not for you, OP. No need to apologize for choosing to only watch DW stuff that actually interests you. That being said, the 1st Doctor is actually one of the Doctors I'd be least likely to suggest for someone new to Classic Who, and while 4 is one of the GOATs he's also got stories with wildly varying quality, especially in his later seasons.

When it comes to which Doctors and stories I'd suggest starting with, it's obviously going to be biased by my own preferences. That being said, I feel that 3 and 7 are pretty good Doctors for those who've seen the modern series but not Classic Who.

3's era was the first in color, has (somewhat) improved action and special effects thanks to a budget boost and the HAVOC stunt team, and features more mature and modern writing thanks to an audience that was aging into teenage and young adulthood. Season 7 is in my top 3 Classic Who seasons, with 3 top-tier stories and one that's not perfect but still pretty good, and if you enjoy that season he has 4 more seasons. Also, Jo Grant is an amazing companion who is the first to get something of a plot arc imo.

7, on the other hand, has the BEST Doctor-companion dynamic with Ace, and their vibe has a lot in common with the more modern Doctor-companion dynamic. Seasons 25 and 26 both have top-tier stories in them, with "Remembrance of the Daleks" being one of the best Dalek stories in the Classic series, "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy" being just plain fun and allowing McCoy to show off his magic show roots, and "Ghost Light" being (imo, of course) one of the best all-around stories in Classic Who.

Obviously you don't have to listen to any of this, since you seem pretty decided about Classic Who not being for you lmao. This is mostly just for the benefit of anyone who might have tried Classic Who but not found it clicking with them. There are so many eras with so many different tones and such a variety of stories, and I just wanted to put my two cents in as to the best place to be introduced to it.

My first Doctor was *the* first Doctor (local broadcaster started running Classic Who in the afternoons when I was a kid) so I occasionally feel a twinge of snobbery when I interact with NuWho fans - and then I take that twinge and c r u s h i t. I don't think you're shallow at all, OP. It just doesn't jive with you and that's okay. I gave Classic Who a go last year when we were in lockdown, but I didn't like all of it. The episodes with Three and Seven were my favorite ones. I only liked Four when his companion was Sarah Jane. I did like Five and his little ragtag gang, but it took me a long time to warm up to Six (he's better in the Big Finish audios). I'm sorry to say that I just didn't like the episodes I watched with One and Two. I did like the Doctors and their companions (from what I saw of them anyway), but I had a hard time with the episodes themselves.

Yeah, I loved Classic Who growing up, but the pace is slow and the special effects and sets are...notoriously cheap. I once saw a guy win a fancy dress prize for going as "a Doctor Who alien" dressed in garbage bags with the bottoms of two egg cartons stapled to his chest.

Agree to disagree OP, I find the guy on the left far more attractive. Can't speak for his acting though as I don't think I've seen him in anything, WWX's actor on the other hound got a resounding 'he's fine?' from me. He wasn't awful but I'd never hurry to watch anything else he stars in.

I liked her at the beginning but then I started getting annoyed how she often equates good production value with a good show. Like, yes, sometimes lighting and costumes aren't great but the way she fixates on them because she used to work on tv production (iirc) is just boring. She also quit patreon in protest after the site gave the boot to Sargon of Akkad which is not a good look imo.

I appreciate all the insight she has given me to chinese tv shows but I'm not interested on her content anymore.
