I'm confused by your first sentence. Was anyone actually contending that this author is the only writer who doesn't have a diverse cast in her books?

I apologize for the confusion. I was thinking about the bit in the secret where OP wrote that the book was published in 2012, not 1980, which I took to mean that a book published that recently should have had a more diverse cast. That’s why I wrote that bit about Sarah Dessen.
