better late than not at all. also, maybe she genuinely felt like crap for not realizing how homogeneous her books have been. but also, probably she realized a lot of people won't settle for watching lily white TV anymore.

I honestly wouldn't think that novels I'd write would ever be made into TV shows or movies, and I don't really describe everybody aside from clothing choices, like a professor who always wears tweed and elbow patches. A person reading could imagine any race they wanted to, like people assuming Hermione was black because of her curls.

Nah, her more recent books have a much more diverse cast, so "she realized her earlier writing was very racially homogenous, and took steps to fix it when she had the chance" is probably the correct take.
