I really hope this isn't about Cdramas, where people are legally constrained from making explicitly gay TV/movies by threat of fines or imprisonment due to the censorship laws. Because that's not queerbaiting.

That's what I suspect it is. Ever since that one secret where the OP blamed the people who made The Untamed for not making it explicitly BL and actually said they believed that censorship laws were no excuse... the entitlement is mind boggling.

Meanwhile I'm tired of how my sexuality can't be treated the same as a goddamn het ship and has to be held to insanely high standards. Fuck off with that, I want equality. If it'd be romantic with a man and a woman, it's romantic with queers, quit making my sexuality different just because some assholes are never going to be satisfied.

I think the point you're missing here is that in het couples, there will almost always be a moment where the subtle build becomes a real thing - that romantic moment where they kiss for the first time, or the cut away to their marriage.

With gay relationships we are regularly seeing that moment missed because it increases their audience share or makes it more sellable in China, or to sidestep censorship issues.

That's the big difference. Where people face life ruining consequences, it's understandable. For the rest of the world it's moral cowardice in the pursuit of profit.

I'd be perfectly happy with a subtle build in queer relationships if we also got that moment of confirmation that we get with het pairings.
