OP, I've read published books, usually comic PNR, where spaying and neutering does come up for characters. Like one where a woman finds her werewolf mate in the pound.

So yeah... it does happen in fiction, but probably not the fiction you've been reading.

I've read one fic where a transformed character got neutered. He was quite worried about whether or not he'd get them back when he got turned back.

(I wrote one where somebody's telepathic soulbond animal got neutered - no more fun heat fic for you! - but that's not quite the same.)

Oh my god this is hysterical and now I want to write fic where a character is turned into an animal, is found and desexed, and then gets turned back into a human again sans reproductive organs. The ANGST.

Okay now that I think about it, being able to turn into a dog at will would be a much more efficient way of accessing medical care than having to do it as a human

Now I absolutely NEED a fic where Character A gets picked up by Character B, and Chaarcter A has to do everything in their power to avoid getting their balls chopped off.

You've given it way too much thought for the weirdest reasons. Either because most people cannot relate to getting their balls cut off or maybe the same reason nobody ever mentions pooping in fanfic either... because why?

Okay, I've never cared for animal-transformation fic, but now I want a story where the female character gets spayed while transformed, and when she gets turned back, is all "Well, thank god for that! Never wanted the damn things anyway."
