I was watching a tiktok earlier suggesting that the fans should just rewrite Harry potter - mostly to make it the queerest version of the series, but I bet we could include a sleeping dragon to improve it by 100%

This would have been cool. Everything is better with dragons.

plz explain OP, I feel like the concept of a "sleeping dragon" is part of some mythology that doesn't exactly mesh with the HP worldbuild in a way that you think it does. Their dragons are extant creatures protected in preserves in distant wild lands where humans don't go. How does that work with a dragon in stasis in the same physical location as a basilisk trapped in a hidden labyrinth? IDK how your idea or concept would work with what we know, conceptually, about Hogwarts and its founders.

The motto of hogwarts is Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus, yeah? And it's treated like any other thing in hogwarts, like just an odd quirk saying, right? just a little saying meaning that you shouldn't provoke something just because you think it's not harming you right now. BUT I kinda wanted it to be a real defense mechanism for hogwarts. it doesn't need to be a dragon like the one in the Gringotts bank, but like a more hefty, magic-y version of the patronus except instead of protecting a person, it would protect the school ~somehow~ lmao. And it would only appear for external threats where the school unites so that all that hat business would have somewhere interesting to go. The basilisk is technically an internal threat, imo, as it's one founder against the others, so the dragon wouldn't apply.

But I admit it's kinda ridiculous. I just wanted it lmao.

Okay, you sold me based on the motto alone, even if I want to think whoever voted on that being the motto having Dumbledore's sense of humor is the only explanation. Maybe it slumbers in the forest instead of under the castle so it's still technically inside the grounds. I'd pay to see that. Good job.

Even though I've never liked or felt any interest in anything Harry Potter related maybe I'd read it if they pulled a dragon out of nowhere.

I don't think I've ever had that thought, but it's super fucking cool, OP! The idea of each house having a PR like dragon transformation would have been amazing.

In the movie, didn’t the students and teachers effectively do a “by your powers combined” during Voldemort’s invasion by unifying their patronuses into the shield that protected the school? It wasn’t as visually cool as a dragon but it was them essentially stacking their magic to defend themselves.
