Least Favorite Marvel and DC characters

[personal profile] philstar22 2021-05-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Opposite of the above thread. Which Marvel and DC characters do you like the absolute least.

For me it is probably:

Marvel: Wolverine, at least right now, because I was never interested, and he's so overdone and takes over everything.

DC: The Penguin. I've just always thought he was a ridiculous character in not a good way. Most other DC villains are just better.

Batman. Omg. He's just so boring and brooding and overdone. Every Batman movie is his origin story and how blah blah manpain blah blah and dear gods.

Marvel...Jean Grey. At least in the movies she's just...boring. Her or Scott/Cyclops.

Batman is super overdone, same as Wolverine. They are always there and when he's there the plot twists around them. I don't dislike him as much as Wolverine because I at least find parts of his character interesting. But he's very much not a favorite.

Comic Jean Grey is awesome. And yes, none of the movie versions have captured her well.

Marvel (616): None, the character's I don't like are just an absence of positive feeling. There are tons of characters I'm tired of, but none I actively dislike.
Marvel (MCU): Tony Stark, oh my gosh EDITH killed my love for Tony I'm just done.
Marvel (EMH): Hank Pym, you're in a super hero show my guy either get on board with super heroing or get off the screen.

DC (comics): Tarantula. It's a bit part but I hate that story line so hard.
DC (Movies): Batman, most especially the Christian Bale version.

I don't hate him, but I am very over MCU Tony and don't particularly love him. Not sure what EMH is, but Hank Pym is one I don't particularly like in the comics.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It's the Avengers cartoon that has actual characterization and plot. There were a couple of episodes where he questions the concept of super heroes, and I feel that but I'm not interested in it as a story. He's also a mess of a man who has some really rough story lines but I like those stories well enough so even though I wouldn't like him as a person in real life I don't mind him as a character.

Marvel: Tony Stark but that is based on MCU.
DC: Joker just because I find him annoying.

I don't hate MCU Tony, but I'm so over him and how he always insists on taking center attention even in other people's movies. Even after he's dead things remained about him. And I'll never not be annoyed at the lack of funeral for Nat or at least acknowledgement that she, along with Tony, saved the day with her death.

The blatant insertion of references to Stark and Strange into Wandavision is a classic example MCU marketing wank.

That's what easier than the previous thread!

Marvel: Scott Summers. Always. And to a lesser extent Peter Parker because I find him incredibly boring.

DC: Bruce Wayne. I've spent ages trying to convince my partner who don't mind DC as much as I do that he was just as fucked up as the Joker (whom I kinda like). I love antiheroes. Just not Batman. Especially when his writers don't get that he is indeed meant to be an antihero. I also hate Superman and Wonderwoman because I find them boring.

*way easier.
Can't type on a phone, sorry.

DC: Edward Nygma/The Riddler (Batman Forever) I've liked other versions of the character, but this one is horrible and feels so wrong to me and I blame everyone involved in this take on the character - Jim Carrey, Joel Schumacher, and screenwriters Lee Batchler, Janet Scott Batchler, and Akiva Goldsman.

Marvel: Howard the Duck (Howard the Duck) I don't know how this was allowed to happen, but it happened.

My least favorite are the characters that get way more attention than everyone else. So, Batman and Wolverine. Especially Batman. Did he really need another movie?

Marvel (Comics): Scott Summers. At least 70% of Marvel's continuity problems are because of his dick.

Marvel (MCU): Tony Stark from Ultron on. You can go to another planet or dimension and the universe still revolves around Disney marketing thinking he's relevant.

DC: Batman. During peak Dark Knight it felt like everything had to have a yearly injection of batangst.

In Films:
Marvel-Either Clint Barton (I really dislike Jeremy Renner and his plot points just sux) or Tony Stark (I think the first Iron Man is amazing and RDJ really embodies him well but I just had enough this arrogant hypocrite)
DC-Probably the new versions of the Joker (got he's the worst and so is Jared Leto)
In Comics:
Marvel-Also Tony Stark (dude's a grade a D in a lot of the ones I've read)
DC-Probably Joker again (I do not find characters whose motivation is "CHAOS! Because!" And after everything, Batman just needs to stab this dude with a Baterang)

*do not find them compelling

DC: Joker as I dislike mental issues theme he has in movies.
Marvel: Steve Rogers as I dislike the military theme he has going on.

Marvel: It's a tie between Tony Stark and Sam Wilson in the MCU. I'm just... very over both of them.

DC: The Joker.

Re: Least Favorite Marvel and DC characters

Marvel comics: Vision
MCU: Vision or Clint Barton

DC: Joker (He'd be a fine villain in moderation, but I'm well past the saturation point by now.)
