What could possibly be the difficulty with tagging? Just write some keywords for your text, so people can find it. Surely you know what the fic is about, since you wrote it? I just don't get the problem. Pairing, genre, tropes, kinks, warnings - that just about sums up what needs to be in the tags.

But then again, some people write their whole-ass memoirs in the tags, so I guess some kind of tagging guide could be useful, since it is apparently not intuitive that the readers don't want to know what the author had for breakfast, that it's their first fic or that they have no idea what they are writing.

Some people may not know the fandom tag they want. Some fandoms have specific tags that may be different from other fandoms. Or if they don't know the certain name of a kink.

What do you mean? They don't know what fandom they are writing the fic for? Not sure how that could happen. Even if it is a franchise with billions of spinoffs, there is always the umbrella term for the franchise that can be used.
Some fandoms have specific stuff, but if a person is writing fanfiction for the fandom, chances are, the person has already encountered these specifics before, in meta or other fics. And kinks can be googled...

Don't know about you but when I write I don't think "ohh yes this fic will have [insert here name of the fandom trope]", I think of a rough plot and start writing that's all.

What tropes do I have? Do they feature enough that someone searching for them won't be disappointed if they click on my fic. Ditto kinks. Ditto characters outside the main group. Ditto pairings. Are any of these things controversial enough that I'll have screaming idiots in my comments if I don't tag for that one-sentence mention? What warnings apply? Maybe this one? Hmm, but does it really, though?

Tagging is not, in fact, simple for everyone.

I'm so glad to hear you say this! I too do not understand what could be difficult about tagging. I mean, it's really, really intuitive. Tag the key elements of your fic. Especially tag anything that might be triggering or substantially upsetting. And if you're not sure a particular tag fits your fic, make your own tag(s) that do fit!
