This runs into secret #6. Sometimes people randomly decide that anime women are “child-coded” for no readily apparent reason.

I imagine that it's because there's a long history in anime and manga of drawing characters who are plainly meant to look like children and then just saying they're not actually children so it's fine. And maybe also because there are large segments of anime and manga fandom that are just openly pedophilic and ephebophilic. So I imagine that's the context that people are thinking of when they make those judgments, rightly or wrongly.

I guess I'd bully... the concept of being misogynistic itself? There's still plenty of people out there who would be offended and call me mean for saying that certain anime or manga have not-so-great attitudes towards women. Critiquing a mainstream story that openly allows itself for mainstream awards, and supposedly serious thought shouldn't be considered bullying, but ah well, here we are.

I don't have money nor a list of reputable charities, but I am trying to write my own original fiction, and seek out manga made by female authors. It's the best I can do right now, but still along the way I'm still encountering manga that I submitted a secret about.

Even then you have to watch out for certain female authors. In the case of CLAMP, as much as I love the stories, characters and art in their series - there's also a frequent amount of age gap/'grooming' couples in some of their stories that are absolutely YIKES.

Oh yeah, definitely. I tried to get a friend to watch Kobato, but I told her about the last minute adult/minor romance, and she wanted nothing to do with it. Which is fair tbh. Kobato was soooo close to not including it, that the way the age gap pairing was shoved in felt so forced it made me laugh.

I guess thank you CLAMP for being strangely influential in anime and manga, but god, no one talks about the sheer amount of age gap ships in it.

As a proshipper, I can answer you: I spent some of my time arguing with antis, because they actively shame and threaten people, that are just trying to have fun. Like, I am not under the delusion that I am contributing to some world-changing movement. I literally just want to carry out my hobby, ie. being in a fandom community, in peace.

(Most times I actually just abide by the rule of block and move on, which I think antis should do for whatever content they don't like.)

Same here. Literally the only thing I want is for my pleasure-space space (fandom) to be what it was when I was growing up. A place where I can enjoy my preferred content in peace, allow others to enjoy their content and filter out stuff I'm actively squicked by. SALS and IKINMKATO.

A few weeks ago I was reading a post from 2009, where someone was discussing adult/teenager ships from the perspective of teenagers' / young adults' power-fantasies and I was amazed to see rational discussion in the comments, absolutely no one accusing someone else of horrific crimes, given what fandom's turned into in the last six years or so.

By the way I hate the way some people on F!S will go out of their way to defend that authors should never! Be! Called! Out! Art! Is! Art! And Bullying Authors Is Bad, should I assume that it's because they are or would be Problematic Authors themselves.
