You can blow me. Hate spelling and grammar nazi's

Re: 144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-02 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, of course you would. The sort of people who throw in greengrocer's apostrophes always do, for some strange reason.

Re: 144

[identity profile] misterthursday.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking for myself, Im alergic to elist cunts. so the OP brings me out in a bad rash.

what's an elist cunt?

I think I'd rather be an A-list cunt.

greengrocer's apostrophes

*thoroughly delighted*

And my, what can I say: My thought exactly. ::owns her anality::

Zing! ♥

Re: 144

[identity profile] misterthursday.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
too far. My apologies

Re: 144

[identity profile] mimes.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, and it's the grammar nazis that are desperate to sound smarter than everyone else. I take it that most of them don't get told that they're smart very often.

Re: 144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-03 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I have a feeling you're on to something here... XD

Re: 144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-02 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Honey, if the OP can't take you seriously because you don't know what the subjunctive is and when to use it, I think she's going to dismiss you outright when she sees your extraneous apostrophes (or should that be apostrophe's).

Re: 144

[identity profile] misterthursday.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't change the fac that they're elitist cunts, and that s/he can blow me.

Re: 144

[identity profile] pimmy.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
honestly I had to look up what "subjunctive" meant since I haven't seen that word in a long time!

Then again, I don't write.

(or should that be apostrophe's)

Okay, you made me giggle there.

Re: 144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-02 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Trust me punctuation, matters a lot.

:)

Yes, darling, I did just call you "punctuation".

Re: 144

[identity profile] misterthursday.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually never noticed that till I read the last line.

I dont really think it matters since I understtod what you were getting at.

Btw, the 'darling' Were you trying to be patronising and belittling? or do you call alot of people darling in regular conversation? Just trying top get the tone, and if I'm responding appropriatly

Re: 144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I call lots of people darling. Particularly if I'm quoting Blackadder.

And grammar and punctuation matter tremendously - think of legal documents, formal publications, important orders and reports (for example, medical and military, where punctuation can get people killed). On a basic, day-to-day level among friends, I'll grant you, it's not a matter of grave importance. But as soon as it comes to anything serious, it is. And if things slide in the day-to-day then it only widens the gap between the basic and the desperately important, and makes it even more difficult for people to understand.

Particularly if I'm quoting Blackadder.

Quoting Blackadder is always fun :)

So basically your saying it has it's place?

I can dig that. Mostly what bothers me is when people bitch about how I type. It's none of they're fucking businness how I conduct myself in my spare time activities (ie talking online) it bothers the fuck outta me when people think... argh. sorry.

Re: 144

[identity profile] homolingual.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, your first comma is grammatically incorrect, anon. You need one after "me" in order for that interpretation to make sense.

GRAMMAR CORRECTION FAIL

Re: 144

(Anonymous) 2009-02-03 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, it burns! Never mind the poor little nonsensical fragment left dangling at the end of the sentence, then?

I take your comment to heart. Note to self: never use bad grammar in irony ever again.

I am suitably shamed.

Re: 144

[identity profile] homolingual.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Back pedal faster, anon.

Re: 144

[identity profile] myonlylight.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You know what? I actually agree with you. I hate a true grammar fuck up as much as the next person, but the assholes who will point out grammar mistakes like this piss me off too. I don't think it detracts enough from the writing to get upset over.

Re: 144

[identity profile] mimes.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.
Most grammar nazis, as I told someone else, just seem like they're desperate to feel smart.

Re: 144

[identity profile] misterthursday.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
I can buy that.

I have a deeper theory, but Im way to lazy to type it out now.
