Does it taste like pumpkin? I love pumpkin pie but dislike sweet potatoes as a side dish.

nayrt but sweet potato pie often uses similar spices as pumpkin pie, but it's the texture that's the biggest difference. Pumpkin pie is almost like custard, sweet potato pie is much more dense, like mashed potatoes.

They're very similar but there are slight differences. Pumpkin pie is basically all about the spices and sweetness. But because sweet potatoes actually have flavor and sweetness of their own, you get more of a balance of flavors, with the spices playing off the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes, and also a slightly different texture

FWIW I also really dislike sweet potatoes as a side dish but I love sweet potato pie

Have you ever had savory sweet potatoes? Instead of sweet spices/sugar, you roast them in the oven with a little olive oil, garlic salt, things like that. I discovered i really like that.

I love savory sweet potatoes, too. They're especially good with curry powder!

I put garlic, paprika, and turmeric on mine, plus the olive oil. I usually roast them in the same pan as the chicken.

I've only ever had savoury sweet potatoes; I didn't even know sweet potatoes with sugar/in desserts were a thing until I went to America and a waitress offered me butter and sugar on the baked sweet potato I had ordered as a side to some chicken tenders. Outwardly I was like, "Just butter please!". Inwardly I was like, "Sugar? On a potato? What is wrong with you?!"

If it's done right, sugar and cinnamon and brown sugar on them *does* taste good, but only in moderation. And NO gross marshmallows.
