It's a fine line in the best of circumstances.

But also, when you're hyper-focused on a topic the way that you have to be to get a graduate degree in it, you have to resist the urge to go overboard. If one of your friends really enjoys chewing on golf course grass, then you might want to mention at some point that it's covered in pesticides that cause cancer. You do not need to be a human Prop 65 label.
