Out of the top 20 movies of 2019, 15 were not superhero movies. In 2018, 14 were not superhero movies. Maybe expand your horizons?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-17 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Top 20 in what sense? Financially?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-17 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. They said blockbusters.

Yeah I mean I can understand if OP is bitching specifically about fandom (even then there's a corner for everything), but even as someone who enjoys superhero movies, there's PLENTY of shit that isn't.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-17 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, that is petty.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-17 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I mean I used to be a big X-Men and Avengers fan back when I could still afford to buy comics so I was really excited by the whole MCU thing. But lately I feel that it's become soulless.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the Falcon + Bucky thing (then again I hate Bucky almost as much as I hate Scott Summers) and I only watched the first episode of Wandavision even though Wanda was one of my favourite characters in the comics.

The last superhero movie I legit enjoyed was Venom, and I didn't even want to go at first. And the last series I liked was Jupiter's Legacy. I gave it a try specifically because it wasn't a MCU or DC thing.

What I mean is that I kind of get where the OP is coming from. It's a bit petty granted, but relatable.

I definitely feel like the MCU franchise, as it existed in its prime and as it was when it built up its fandom, is dead.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-17 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, being dead it is still bigger than any other franchise. Considering I think both Wandavision and Sam&Bucky show broke viewing records.

Why on earth would you hate Bucky? I get disliking any character. But outright hate for Bucky? I just can't think of a reason. He's one of the most cinnamon role characters in the entire MCU.

(Not the anon you replied to.)

I have never liked Bucky, and really couldn’t tell you why. Maybe there’s something about the actor that annoys me? I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything else.

In the actual movies, he spends more time as a plot device than an actual character.

Outside the movies, fandom mostly uses him as a doll to act out their co-dependency fetish.

I mean— I agree, in a sense, I would love it if Marvel and Disney crawled into a hole and died in a morass of their own bland pablum and nobody ever talked about them again. But given that that’s not going to happen, honestly, just... stop watching? Stop paying attention? It is really, truly not that hard to avoid that stuff and find things that interest you and people to talk about them with. There are so, so many diverse, unusual, bizarre, creative movies being made, and more access to them than ever before. More that you could ever watch in a lifetime even if you spent every moment glued to the sofa. You can create for yourself precisely the media experience that you’re wishing would be handed to you by Hollywood.

Yeah, I really don't get when people complain about stuff like this. I was into the MCU because of Captain America, after Endgame I am no longer interested. I've had no problem avoiding the shows/movies since. The most exposure I get to them is on Tumblr because I still follow some MCU blogs.

As much as I like superhero movies, I absolutely agree. The whole genre has pretty much gone the same way as the RomCom where it's been done to death.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-17 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
i think the moment i realised black panther was the EIGHTEENTH fucking mcu movie was the moment i gave up

there are TWENTY THREE movies SO FAR before even thinking about the tv shows; i'd like the whole thing to just go away and breathe for a bit

(Anonymous) 2021-05-18 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Not being into the MCU at all, I naively thought that a movie titled "Endgame" would be the last one in the series and I'd finally get to stop having to hear about it all. I do my best to curate every mention of it out of my media feeds, but I still end up (unwillingly) absorbing some level of information about every new show/movie/thing just due to how EVERYWHERE it is.

=(

"Waaaaah, they're talking about something I don't like, waaaaaah!! I don't like it so it shouldn't exist!! I hope it fails because I PERSONALLY don't like it!!"

JFC, all y'all are whiny-ass brats. Grow the fuck up.

I have no horse in this race, but of all the people in this thread you're the whiniest sounding brat by far.

I don't know what local movie theater and streaming service OP is using but I'm assuming they are bad ones if the only selection they have is Marvel movies.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-18 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
OP's tv is stuck on Disney + and they're too embarrassed to ask for help.

Prove me wrong.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-18 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Why does it have to be blockbusters at all?

It seems like the pandemic has given directors with small budgets a chance to do their thing whilst big budget film production has stalled due to pandemic restraints.

As someone up above said, expand your horizons a bit.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-18 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, forgive me I'm wrong here but hasn't Marvel been on a movie break since Endgame? The only content they've released has been the shows that started coming out this year, right?

They've only just confirmed the lineup for Phase 4 so I'm confused at how you've been seeing them dominate the market since Endgame was released in April 2019 and we've had no Marvel blockbusters since.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-19 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
the second spiderman movie, far from home, came out in the july after endgame, but that's pretty much been it. when black widow finally comes out in july, it will have been 2 years and a week since far from home.
