I just didn’t get the same sense of joy and wonder watching these as I did watching LOTRs the first time. Maybe it was nostalgia goggles, maybe I was just used to the universe being represented by now or maybe it was because somehow the special effects weren’t as good even though they were newer. Stretching out the story probably didn’t help but there were so many places where they could’ve made up for that and it just never delivered.
