Aldi is so great, I wish they were around where I live. They are the kind of high efficiency, low-fucks-given, grocery store we need more of.

Also I like knowing Patton Oswald does his own grocery shopping. I know he's not like Madonna levels of fame and disconnection with the real world, but it's still neat to know. This and the fact that he did a bunch of episodes with the HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast make me like him so much more.

Damn it, now I want to go to Aldi and buy snacks and cheese and a bunch of crap I don't need.

Favorite Manga/s?

I haven't really been keeping up with anything new, but after hearing about the passing of Kentaro Miura (creator of Berserk) it just made me reminisce on my old faves.

so my personal favorites:

1) X 1999
2) Petshop of Horrors
3) Berserk
4) Death Note
5) xxxHolic

The closest Aldi to me is 35-40 minutes away. So annoying! I love Aldi.

I love Aldi so much! Really helps stretch my grocery budget for the basics and I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the more unexpected items I found there... frozen mussels in garlic butter = amazing.

Love Aldi, they have gluten free.

Aldi is great, both for their affordability (while still carrying some weird and unexpected yet delicious items) and because they treat their employees quite decently, especially compared to some other big chain supermarkets.

Is this an East Coast thing like Rocket Burger? Because I have genuinely never heard of Aldi.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-21 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
They're a German company that's expanded into other countries. I'm in the UK, and they're pretty common here.

I'm an east coast person but I've never heard of Rocket Burger (is it supposed to be the East Coast In n' Out?). But yeah, Aldi does have more footing in the East I guess. I always thought it was related to Lidl, which was superior (imo), but it's a great supermarket that carries many things and at great prices.

It's not, they're rivals - but they are both German companies that started around the same time and have roughly the same business model. I too prefer Lidl, it has a slightly more interesting product range and I like the "theme" weeks where they have speciality foods from different parts of Europe, although Aldi is better for wine (mind you, Lidl's not bad on that front, either).

I love Aldi especially their Choceur chocolate

Someone has very weird ideas about what post-societal collapse shopping would look like (obviously if society had really collapsed there wouldn't be supermarkets at all, but... this is also not what shops looked like in the USSR when things were collapsing). Aldi is a capitalist wonderland, it's just one that pitches itself to the budget market.

Anyway, Aldi is fine but Lidl is better for most things.

LIDL!!!!

It was the only place my broke college student ass could afford to shop regularly when I was living in Europe. Mini canvases for painting and cereal? All for less than 3€? Where else could you buy a hose or stepping ladder and also do your food shopping for minimal pricing? Granted, that was about ten years ago, but still. I fell in love with Lidl lol. And the cashier was nice!

IDK if you've ever heard of Kwik Save, a very discount British supermarket with their own brand called 'No Frills'. They have a very post-apocalyptical vibe and were typically in very run-down parts of the UK.

I love Aldi! I wish it was closer to where I lived though :(

But what's this "post societal collapse aesthetic" he's talking about? I must be too entrenched to see it lol

Far too much food/ products on those shelves for post-societal collapse. And the cashiers are too efficient.
