Paul is a teenager in Dune. I don't know much about Chalamet as an actor, I've never seen any of his work, but I like his casting because for the first time an obviously twenty-something isn't playing Paul. Now I don't have wonder why all the other characters are so OMG! amazed at Paul's maturity and ability when it shouldn't be note-worthy an adult has his skills in that universe. Really, I wouldn't mind if someone even younger played the Paul, like the kid from Stranger Things and It.

(Not OP)

I honestly have no idea why he has so many fangirls - he's just constantly got this sullen, sulky look and seems bored and annoyed with everything around him.

NAYRT--it's been a thing for a long time--the first one I can think of without researching is James Dean, but there's definitely a market for bored, sulky, sullen young men with sharp cheekbones.

OP

Yes, I know Paul is a teenager. But I don't think Chalamet can pull of the Paul of the later book. I think he can pull of early Paul, but I don't think he can pull off the Paul who is the leader of the Fremen, worshipped by them, planning a war, and especially not the Paul who has taken the water of life.

Fair enough.

Like I mentioned before I'm not familiar with Chalamet's work and I have no idea of his range, so you're probably right.

Hopefully, he'll age and adapt into what the role will require over time.

Never read the book or have seen the first film, so I'll hold off on judging Chalamet until I see this film.

There are 2 previous adaptations(one film, one TV miniseries). And gods know how many books now.

So holding off might be a good idea. Go into the whole thing blind, so to speak.

Was referring to the original book, the first one.
