AYRT

I don't know. I think a lot of his wife material isn't actually quite as straightforwardly wife-guy-ish as his reputation. Some of it is, but a lot of it is really just regular old relationship humor. I really think a lot of his audience wanted to see him a certain way.

Oh yes, for sure he could pour it on a little thick. Also agree that his audience wanted to see him in a certain way. I know someone who is a stan of this guy (or was, I haven't been on tumblr in a few days) but she was crushed about this guy, when all his shit hit the fan. People certainly believed in what he said in his comedy routines.

A routine can be fabricated for the sake of humor, but people are also thinking of his social media. For better or worse, I think its generally assumed there's a certain degree of authenticity in what's posted there, even if it's polished for public consumption.

Just because they've split now, it doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't sincere at the time. Like, talking about this is tricky, because it seems like there were other things going on with Mulaney in this case, so that has to be considered. But a lot of people talk like he had done something wrong just by talking about being happy in his relationship and then splitting up from that person, and cite that as a problem. And I don't agree with that. If it were actually just the case that he had been in love with someone and talked about it publicly and then ended up splitting up with them later, and there was nothing else going on? What has he done wrong in that scenario? It happens that feelings change sometimes. I don't think you should hold it against him that he was honest and open about his emotional life even if it changed later on. It's a bummer but it happens.

Now, again, in the actual fact, it seems like Mulaney was an ass in other ways. But people talk about it like the fact that they're divorcing at all is suspicious in itself.
