Okay but urgh, it's really in poor taste to make this even remotely about representations of Jews in the media. I agree with the sentiment in the first comment. Goddamn we really need to rein ourselves in when it comes to celebrities, like yikes.

There is a real life equivalent of representation, though. It's called visibility. And it's even understandable to compare representation somewhat when we're talking about a stand-up comic's routines. He and his wife are real, but he wrote his material and performed it to be enjoyed by an audience, and he chose what to include. He didn't have to mention that his wife was Jewish, but he did, and it's not fair to expect people consuming the material to not be affected by it when John Mulaney was the one who chose to make it up important.

I don't think he wanted his wife put up on a fucking pedestal to be treated as Representation or Visibility Fodder.
