Lmao preach. This is like half the content in my current main fandom

The amount of times in the last six year I've seen "I've never seen a Star Wars movie but [insert asinine opinion here]" on Tumblr is truly astounding. That might have been because it's Tumblr, though.

Such asinine opinions from people who've never consumed the canon are rampant on twitter, too. I have mutuals who will try and talk with those users but it's just easier to ignore or block them instead.

Eh, I feel like that example is kinda complicated though, cause lord knows there's plenty of people who have completely asinine opinions on SW who have seen it

Oh man, there was a time when this was rampant in YA literature (maybe still, I stopped paying attention). I did basic research on some of the claims and the books/characters in question were so egregiously misrepresented that it was mind boggling.

I lost respect for the YouTube channel Bad Writing Advice when he made a video about how to (not) write a dystopia and it sounded like every snarky rant about The Hunger Games from people who never read or watched The Hunger Games.

Oh this happens so god damn much. I'm so fucking tired of people trying to pull their 'better than thou' attitude on fandoms, when it's to blatantly obvious that they have no interest in fandom community - just wanting to be involved in drama and call it activism.

I feel similarly reading comments on media reviews where someone says “well, not gonna watch/read/play because it’s clearly about x or they’re gonna do z and that’s dumb/overdone/
morally terrible” when there’s barely any grounds for it.

Also, secret-maker: what is the pic from, if you know?

Secret maker but not the OP

I don't know the artist but here's where I found it:

Thanks! Nice find :)

Oh god, I've been there so often and it's nightmarish. And these people always think they're right! How can you been when you haven't seen one single second of the canon???

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear to God I've had discussions with people who've only seen gifs of the movie we were talking about. I'm not trying to gate keep, you can like a thing based on 5 seconds of audio-less video, but your opinions on characterization is literally context-less nonsense.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I hate it too. It also really makes absolutely no sense to me that people would even be interested in fandoms for things when they haven’t seen/read the original source material, but that’s a different conversation.
