Using SJW unironically invalidates this entire secret.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-25 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Also, OP, as a die-hard villain fan, I personally think you're at least a bit of a coward for the redemption at all. Villain-on-villain action is the best.

Yes, this. Lucius is awesome the way he is. There are plenty of shipping opportunities. He's great with Narcissa, they are probably my favorite canon pairing. He's fun with Voldemort too. He can even be interesting with Harry, either in a villain/hero way or with Harry as a villain too. He can be shipped with his wife's sister, Bellatrix. And I've even read a couple of fics that made him and Fenrir work.

For one mind boggling moment I thought this was about shipping Lucius and Loki. I'd read that crackfic tbh

(Anonymous) 2021-05-25 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Just laughing my ass off at the combination of telling the dumb SJWs you don't care about the feelings and you're gonna like what you like and you're real big and tough and nasty, while simultaneously demanding 100% redemption for any villain you decide to ship

Just funny stuff to me

(Anonymous) 2021-05-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? Who's claiming the moral high ground here?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-25 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Such a weird leap to make, imo. Makes it sound like they're one of those people who thinks a SJW is "anyone who doesn't think what I'm doing is a great idea".

(Anonymous) 2021-05-25 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly it's the best part of the secret, outright comedy gold. How on earth do you sit there on a high-horse when in order to ship a villain they have to not be a bad-guy anymore? This is either a fantastic troll or someone who has a boggling level of cognitive dissonance.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-25 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I'd tap that in a heartbeat, but only if he remained a villain or at least morally ambiguous.

Jason Isaacs is never as sexy as when he plays sadists and/or villains. I admit that watching him in Discovery was literally a pleasure.

I used to ship him with Potter back when I was still Harry's age. Of course, now I find it a bit disturbing but you have to admit that some scenes were, well, interesting. Teenager!me might have had a bit of a rape kink, I think.

This. All of this. Although I didn't have a rape kink so much as I related to Harry and Hermione the most and so I just shipped the two characters I found hottest (Lucius and Sirius) with them and didn't think it through at all.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of us had various fucked up kinks that the old HP fandom catered superbly too. I'm perfectly happy to have entered fandom when I did.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
How is this a secret? This is what every villain fandom does to it's villains, lmao. They become unrecognizable woobie uwu babies, it's why I hate most villain fandoms as someone who loves them.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Why redeem them at all? Keep them as magnificent bastards! (Okay, to be fair, Loki wasn't all that as a villain, and Lucius was only great before Voldemort got re-embodied, after that he was a snivelling mess.)

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Lucius Malfoy you magnificent bastard.

I have nothing to contribute except to say this.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
This thread is proving exactly why this is a secret. There's a fairly prevalent stance that accepting the villains as villains and not turning them good is superior in some way. *eyeroll* As though liking a 180 redemption is for the mentally weak or some shit, lol.

Personally, I need at least, like, a 120 degree redemption in order to be able to enjoy a ship with a formerly evil character in it. That's just how it works for me, and I'm good with that. It's cool that other people like their unrepentant villain ships, good for them. The only inferior option is thinking you're better because you have different shipping tastes than someone else. Like good god, can we not?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sure, I totally agree with you, but if that's what OP thinks I don't know what it has to do with SJWs

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
The unnecessary mention of SJWs is throwing people off. "I want my villains to turn into beta cucks, take that SJWs." Okay...

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
It is weak. The OP even acknowledges this when they mention wanting it to be OOC.

Why even bother?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I love a redemption arc, when it is in character. But yes, I do think in character is automatically superior and OOC is automatically inferior. There are plenty of characters to write redemption arcs for where it works. If you can't write a character as recognizably who they are, you really aren't writing them at all. You are writing a different character and then slapping the other character's name on them.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I just don't want to inflict an evil chaarcter on the second part of my ship. I want a healthy relationship for them.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
If it's ooc it's ooc. Don't sacrifice characterisation for some shitty idea of what a 'healthy relationship' is. (Usually far from what people write anyway)

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not picky about my fic. I'm fine with some OOC... as long as I enjoy reading it, I'm happy.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-26 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Then don't inflict an evil character on them in the first place, maybe.

I feel like 'I like a 180 redemption arc for villains' and 'I can only like (or ship) villains if they get a 180 redemption arc' are two different sentiments.
