Celebrities being rich and famous are more likely to be at the top. So they're benefiting from the (occasionally child) slave labor and they're getting used to drive recruitment. So if anything I hold them responsible for Scientology's crimes rather than as victims of it. I know it's not that simple and even being near the top of such an abusive system can be damaging, but I'm more worried about some 14 year old pressured into signing a billion year contract of hard labor for 30$ a month.

NAYRT - I think you’re right that celebrities are at less risk of physical harm because they’re financially valuable to the cult. With that said, many of the celebrities were brought in as kids/young adults or targeted when they were particularly vulnerable and then deliberately isolated from their non-cult friends and family because that’s how cults work. They are still victims, even if they’re also perpetuating the cycle on others. Think of it like the Hunger Games - even the winners don’t ever really win.
