Yes, see my coment below instead of making me type it all again. She wasn't being spanked or anything like this. She was restrained, which isn't the same. And, again, one abuse doesn't justify the other, but I'd like to be candid about it. Some RL people are trying and others aren't. Again, I'm not really interesting in discussing Gothel as a character - as I pointed out she is just a Disney Villainish Character, and those characters are unidimensional.

But if we're talking real life based on the plot of the movie, some parents who restrict their children's activities, for instance, have good intentions (I'd say most of them, even, perhaps...) while others don't (and I've seen absurd things like raising your children to become sex workers). In other words, I think it's easy for people to assume the worst of type 1 parents and assume that they're the RL equivalent of Gothel because they don't even realize type 2 actually exists IRL.

And I really wish all my worries could be summed up in so little. As a Disney princess by the end of the movie her life had a quick happy ending.

No, I'm saying psychological abuse is a vast world and some of the worst abusers are never called out on it, and some poor parent trying their best (and, therefore, not trying to be psychologically abusive - SOME, obviously.) is.
