Gothel is abusive. The entire movie. Period. You are suggesting one type of abuse is less valid than the other, or possibly not valid at all. This is one of the things we take issue with.

I was indeed saying that in real life the "abuse was abuse" thing is such a nice, dreamy idea! Wow nobody deserves unhappiness indeed! but absolutely UNFAIR to parents who actually try and suck at it and deserve help, who shouldn't be shoved in the same box, to me, as parents who didn't even bother. See, Gothel was a hateful parent, I'm not arguing.
Source: me and my family have seen way more shit than one should handle and nobody gives a fuck lol.
