Certainly not true of all parents, but some parents have grown beyond their homophobia because of the love of their children.

I was gonna say, this is something that absolutely does happen in real life. It's easy to be homophobic until your own kid is gay and you have to reconcile that your beliefs are now directly causing harm to someone you love.

I don't actually think that's amorality the way I think about it. There's a real social pressure (from more than just religious factions) to hate lgbt people. There are plenty of places where that's not amoral at all. I mean amoral in that it was an active choice to choose to reject ethics.
