I've always considered that as a "fairytale" trope, as in it will definitely not happen irl and that's why it's kinda nice to see in fiction.

I'm very much a fan of this trope, but it's absolutely not realistic at all, and that's fine. It doesn't need to be to be fun, but I am sad that it's not working for you anymore OP. But it happens sometimes, we go off things we used to like.

The pattern for racists seems to be “I care about my ingroup, so a black person in my ingroup can convince me to stop looking down on black people.” (Sometimes. If you’re lucky.) I haven’t seen someone start caring about other people when they start from a point of not caring about anyone at all.

Certainly not true of all parents, but some parents have grown beyond their homophobia because of the love of their children.

I'm fine with it not necessarily being realistic so I do really love this as a plot point. However, my enthusiasm for it has diminished in recent years and I do wonder if that's just the state of everything getting to me a bit more now.

I'll probably get super into it again at some point. I tend to go through phases with these things. It's like how dystopia is one of my fave fictional things but a combination of market saturation and then the pandemic made me less likely to seek it out unless it came highly recommended.

I think it's fine to have a trope that doesn't reflect the same in reality. You get to make fiction what you want! It's kinda like how in real life, certain age gaps are a big red flag (38 year old dating a 19 year old) because most times it isn't a good sign. But fiction means you can make circumstances be what you want, including making a relationship like that work in a healthy way (if it's what you desire).

I think sometimes lampshading it or addressing in-universe the situation may help. And if you're an author, maybe you shouldn't make EVERY SINGLE relationship or major/primarily-focused-on relationship like that, but I think that's fine!

First thing I thought of was that cats with prisoners program, where prisoners are allowed to have cats and rehabilitate them.

They haven't had a single prisoner kill their own cat, but have had prisoners kill other prisoners' cats (one time this resulted in a murder).

I very much don't adore all of them (especially the 2015 live-action fell flat for me) but I'm always open for new adaptations. They don't even have to be subversive or do something interesting, I will still check them out.

I love Cinderella stories! I don't always enjoy the adaptations, but I like checking them out. I was absolutely giddy when I found out about Cindereki since it combined two things I love (and yes, I found it extremely enjoyable).

Honestly? I've been finding lately the fanfics on spacebattles to be a lot more interesting to me than stuff on FFN of Ao3. (Especially once I found the Worm fics could be filtered out.)

One of my favorite ones just picked up again after 9 months and is in the final storyline, with the author updating daily (since it's all written, just not posted)
