I'm fine with it not necessarily being realistic so I do really love this as a plot point. However, my enthusiasm for it has diminished in recent years and I do wonder if that's just the state of everything getting to me a bit more now.

I'll probably get super into it again at some point. I tend to go through phases with these things. It's like how dystopia is one of my fave fictional things but a combination of market saturation and then the pandemic made me less likely to seek it out unless it came highly recommended.

yeah, i think this is what's happening. there's too many amoral characters about.

I know that for me, it's a consequence of getting older, as two things have definitely happened over the years: 1) Amorality has ceased to be "cool" (and I never thought it was that cool to begin with & 2) I have less and less patience as I get older and am no longer invested in reforming people. Nowadays, if you show yourself to be a terrible person, I just don't want to have anything to do with you, and that has bled into my approach to fiction.
