I did a TNG re-watch during the first quarantine last year and ngl, my existing love of Star Trek, and the fact I first watched TNG as a child, is probably what got me through season 1. But it also wasn't as bad as I expected.

I do 100% agree with the conventional fan wisdom that TNG gets into its stride over a couple of seasons in. There's no denying that.

Will never not love Patrick Stewart for fully embracing everything and giving it his all as though it was the same level as any other job he'd take. He really makes so, so many TNG episodes for me.

Picard still stands out as the best captain for me for this reason. Sisko is a close second, but the emissary stuff started bugging me after a while.

He's my favourite Captain by miles anon. I will be sad if they seemingly inevitably reboot the TNG crew because it'll feel even worse than when Kirk, Spock and Bones were given a modern makeover. I'm not even totally against the new actors for those roles, but given I still had a bit of a struggle accepting them. it'd take a LOT for me to get used to anyone new playing Picard long-term.
