I don't know why people think Irish people = pale skin, pale eyes.

A whole literal half of my family is Irish (as in, lives in actual Ireland, not the American 'half Irish' that's four generations ago through one relative) and the vast majority have olive skin and either brown or dark grey eyes (myself included -- dark grey for me).

In addition, I have a friend whose father is Irish and ... her (and all her Irish family) look positively Italian. Darkest of brown eyes, practically black hair, naturally tanned skin. Her similarly Irish husband, however... is literally the only person of recent Irish descent I know who has the stereotypical ginger/strawberry blond hair and blue eyes.

That weird stereotype needs to die.

Nobody who knows any actual Irish people think that all Irish people are pale eyed, it's really strange that people do.

Agree 100% with everything you've pointed out here. But my friend legit got something like "are you sure?" directed at her and "but you have brown eyes!" was mentioned. It's stupid because why would she make it up about her mother's family being Irish if they weren't?!

I'm in Scotland and we get a diet version with the whole "all Scots are gingers" thing. Yes, some physical traits might be common but it's not the be all and end all.

I think it's just because it's so notable. You guys have the highest percentage of redheads per population in the world.

Yeah, they came up from Spain ways originally.

That's a myth.
